After having the first four games of their season postponed, the UMass Minutemen took the field for the first time in 369 days on Sunday afternoon against the Fairfield Stags, winning 13-9 in a CAA contest.
Chris Connolly paced the Minutemen offense with a hat trick while Gabriel Procyk and Billy Philpott each had two goals and one assist for three points. Freshman Dillon Arrant had two goals in his college debut.
Matt Knote seemingly picked up right where he left off during his freshman campaign a season ago, making 10 saves with a 52% save percentage in cage. However, the Minutemen defense in front of him also deserves a ton of credit. UMass caused 11 turnovers in the game, which included eight in the second half alone. Fairfield ended the game with a total of 20 turnovers.

One day shy of the one-year anniversary of Iona hiring Rick Pitino, the Hall of Fame coach has led the Gaels to the NCAA men s basketball tournament.
Iona defeated Fairfield60-51 in the MAAC title game on Saturday in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Gaels never trailed and finished the first half on a 10-0 run, giving them a 12-point lead they wouldn t come close to relinquishing. They extended the lead to as many as 16 points in the second half, led by the senior backcourt of Asante Gist (18 points) and Isaiah Ross (13 points).
Tuesday Night marked the return of March Madness to Boardwalk Hall when Manhattan s Ethan Lasko nailed a 30-foot three point jumper right before the buzzer to tie the game at 50, sending the First Round MAAC Tournament Game into Overtime. Yes, there were games played earlier in the day, but Boardwalk Hall seemed to come alive with a feeling that had not been seen in Atlantic City in 12 months. At that moment, it didn t matter if you were a fan of Manhattan or Fairfield or if you were working security or if you were seated at the Socially Distanced Media Row, every person reacted when Lasko hit the shot and it was in that moment I knew for sure: Normalcy is almost back in South Jersey.
