Carrier landings are now becoming easier, more efficient and ultimately less risky for pilots on carriers because the Navy’s new Joint Precision Approach and Landing System, or JPALS, has been declared operational.
The Finnish air force operates some 62 Hornets, 62 F/A-18Cs and seven F/A-18Ds the latter a two-seat variant for a total of three squadrons. That is the same type of fighter that touched down onto the Abraham Lincoln.
At best, an upgraded Chinese J-15 might rival an American carrier-launched F/A-18 Super Hornet. However, the J-15 is likely unable to compete with a U.S. carrier-launched F-35C or F-35B.
