Baobab Studios has become one of the premier creators of animated content for virtual reality (VR) headsets, from 2017’s
Invasion! to the more recent
Baba Yaga. Its next project is
Namoo, a poetic tale due for release this year and now there’s a trailer to give you a teasing glimpse.
Namoo is being directed and written by Erick Oh (
Heart,
How to Eat Your Apple), with the word meaning “tree” in Korean. This is the central theme for the project, taking you on an emotional journey that follows the defining moments of one man’s life. Inspired by the life of Erick’s grandfather, from a seed the tree grows and eventually fully matures collecting significant objects that represent both good and bad memories within its branches.
For the first time, the festival will let you stream its premiere movies and try the hottest VR storytelling from your living room. We figured out how to fest, so you don't have to.

Making his directorial debut, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson takes viewers to the Harlem Cultural Festival, which took place three months before Woodstock in 1969. The event hosted over 300,000 people and featured Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, and Nina Simone. However, no one has seen the footage since it’s been “stored in a basement for 50 years,” according to Sundance. Until now.

Exploring the worth of our memories and how they link in our brains can be exciting, also terrifying. This film wants us to think about what these memories mean, but more importantly, how these memories can be gamified, automated, simulated, disseminated to anyone. Here’s another wake up call to remind us where we could head if we don’t hit pause to review.
