But there s nothing usual about 2020, and we have a whole flurry of restaurants opening in Dallas. Also, one high-profile closure. Here s the list, openings first:
OPENINGS This concept from members of the Fletcher family, of State Fair of Texas fame, is opening a second location at Preston Center, the week before Christmas. It ll go into the space at 6030 Luther Ln. previously occupied by Urban Caphe (between Hopdoddy Burger Bar and Gem juic bar).

Pizza joint with Cowboys coaching roots opens in Preston Center
A new pizza restaurant serving up New York-style pies has a special connection to the Dallas Cowboys. Tony Avezzano is the owner of the newly-opened Yonkers Pizza Company at 8421 Westchester Drive. If that surname rings a bell, it’s because Avezzano’s father, Joe Avezzano, was a special teams coach for the Cowboys for 14 years, starting in 1990, when he was hired by then head coach Jimmy Johnson.
The younger Avezzano got his start in the food industry when his father, who died in 2012, decided to open a sports bar in Lewisville called Hat Tricks, according to CultureMap. The bar eventually started offering New York-style Italian food, but was sold in 2014. But that cooking experience lead Tony Avezzano to open Yonkers Pizza. The new restaurant serves deep dish pies and individual slices, as well as Jimmy’
Natasha Weir and Maricela Espinosa were hired as new baristas.
“It allows them to take a giant step away from their past that could potentially be, for a lot of people who are needing second chances, a ball and chain, said Natalie Huscheck s husband, Michael Huscheck. We’re looking to cut that off of them. I think this is going to set them free.
Weir and Espinosa worked hard to get the coffee shop ready for opening day, Huscheck said.
The Huschecks said the women were inspirations for anyone who could use a second chance.
“We’re starting with two, and we’re super excited just to be starting, but even the two of these ladies are praying and hoping for the next hire and to help more women like they have already been helped,” Natalie Huscheck said.
