CHICAGO (Reuters) – Since she started training as a rhythmic gymnast at the age of seven, America’s Laura Zeng has come to realise that most people in her country do not know much about her sport.
The 21-year-old competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, is a six-time national champion and is her country’s best shot at a medal in rhythmic gymnastics at the Tokyo Olympics.
But there is little fanfare, or funding, for rhythmic gymnastics in the United States.
So Zeng and her team mates have turned to social media to rally fans, inform the public and keep up with what the competition is up to ahead of the Games.

A Chinese American rhythmic gymnast will be filling one of the two maximum spots at the Olympics for the first time since 1992.
Rhythmic gymnastics team: The U.S. is sending a full rhythmic gymnastics team to the Olympics for the first time since entering the program 37 years ago, reported NBC Sports.
Laura Zeng, 21, is the “nation’s most accomplished rhythmic gymnast” and will be joined by Evita Griskenas in the event.
This is the first time since 1992 that the U.S. has filled the maximum two individual Olympic spots.
