Published April 22, 2021 2:09pm Food and Drug Administration (FDA) director general Eric Domingo on Thursday said a compassionate special permit (CSP) was given to another hospital for the use of anti-parasitic drug ivermectin as possible treatment for COVID-19. May pending pa po na isa daw na nag-apply din kahapon na may kulang lang na papel na isa-submit, Domingo said at a congressional hearing, noting that three hospitals now have CSPs. (One hospital was given a compassionate special permit yesterday. There s still a pending application as the documents submitted were not yet complete.)

Published April 15, 2021 5:33pm House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco and Deputy Speaker Bernadette Herrera-Dy have filed a resolution seeking an inquiry into the policies of the Department of Health and the Food and Drug Administration on the registration, utilization and manufacture and distribution of drugs for COVID-19. Through House Resolution 1711, the two lawmakers urged the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability to conduct an inquiry on the matter as well as the policies and guidelines of both agencies, which appear to be detrimental to public interest amid the pandemic. The resolution specifically mentioned FDA Circular No. 2020-12 or the Guidelines for the Registration of Drug Products under Emergency Use for the Coronavirus Disease 2019.

Published April 14, 2021 7:31pm Clinical trials are needed to assess the benefits and risks of anti-parasitic drug ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19 and to uphold regulatory standards in the pharmaceutical industry, a group of pharmacists said. In a statement sent to GMA News Online, the Philippine Association of Pharmacists in the Pharmaceutical Industry (PAPPI) said they adhere to pertinent laws and regulations in the Philippines to ensure that its member-companies are providing safe and effective medicines to Filipinos. “Some of our member companies continue to carefully examine the results of all available and ongoing clinical studies on the use of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19,” PAPPI said.
