Indiana s roster is complete, for now, and here s how it looks position by position – The Daily Hoosier

The initial whirlwind is over, and a little over three weeks after the hiring of Mike Woodson as head coach, Indiana has what appears to be a final sense of the personnel it will bring in to the 2021-22 season. The Hoosiers have their full assistant coaching staff in place, a number of off-the-floor positions filled and a new behind-the-scenes heavy hitter in Thad Matta, the long-time Ohio State head coach who is now the associate athletic director for basketball administration. Of the seven players who entered the transfer portal, they kept four and lost three. They added two outside players from the portal and added an incoming freshman to the 2021 class.

IHSAA basketball: 2021 players who did not make Indiana All-Stars

It was a crowded year for the boys IndyStar Indiana All-Star team. All-Star director Mike Broughton named 14 players to the team, but this was a year where at least another six to 10 players had a strong case to be an Indiana All-Star. The problem, as always: If you add one, who are you taking off the team? Here are 10 players I thought had a good case who did not make the All-Star team: Quimari Peterson, Gary West Side: I had Peterson on my list of Indiana All-Stars and it’s fair to wonder if Gary West Side had knocked off Carmel in the Class 4A semistate (a 53-50 overtime loss) if he might have made the team. The 6-1 Peterson, who committed to Indiana State after the season, averaged 14 points and four assists on a balanced team and led the Cougars to a sectional and regional title for the first time in 16 years. He scored more than 1,000 career points. I would bet on Peterson having a quality college career.

Lander announces he’s on board with IU’s new staff Share this story Photo by Michael Hickey/Getty Images One hour after news broke Monday that former IU guard Dane Fife was leaving Michigan State to join new Indiana head coach Mike Woodson’s staff, the Hoosiers received even more good news related to their backcourt. Former five-star guard Khristian Lander announced via Twitter that he is removing his name from the NCAA Transfer Portal and returning to Bloomington for a second season. “After much thought with Coach Woodson and my family, I feel it is in my best interest to continue my basketball and academic career with Indiana University,” Lander said. “I want to be one of the reasons Indiana Basketball gets back to being great again. I’m putting my trust into my team, Coach Woodson, and the staff he is assembling.”
