minister who is very much anti-immigrant, euro skeptic salvini scored 29%. we re also seeing in other countries anti-eu, euro skeptic, anti-immigrant parties doing well. but let s put it all in context. in terms of numbers of seats, some of them didn t do better than they did five years ago the last time there was a european election. the other big headline is these typically fringe parties like the green, the environmentalists, scored very, very well. that is because there s more awareness of climate change and the need to do something about the environment and also they re firmly pro-eu. so they did very well. i d say the one big takeaway, and this is something familiar to american viewers, the establishment parties. they were pummeled in some cases. the alliance here is brussels lost its majority. they re going to have to do a lot of convincing because voters across the countries, across the 28 countries of this european union are sending a clear message. they did so in european,
a greater probably come 1st as they did 5 years ago but they were hoping for a bigger way into shows that people are really with you and the support from from the president in the not all they have a program that is not saying we want to leave the european union or we re going to remove the euro but if it s a day or a euro skeptic actually when reading it you wonder how they want to do all these things by staying in the european union the best hoping for most import of that and to push their agenda on the european level. and paris for the i thank you so much. some partial results in from the from 2 countries germany and france of the stations like the greens are having a good night the national rather in france where they take 23.2 percent but as far as exit polls are concerned looks like being a good night for a marina in the pens. and as. far right populist parties across europe are expected . best strongest showing that ever in an election to the european parliament it is
from that side also points in games for the nationalist far right parties are they really drawing that much voter support yes indeed it is a big concern that there could be a landslide victory for nationalist euro skeptic parties they could clinch up to 20 percent of the seats in the european parliament the big question of course how much of an impact if that would happen if that were to happen how much of an impact it would have depends on 2 things it depends on the overall turnout in the election and it depends very much on the question if they are able to form one political group so far they are divided among several groups in the european parliament if they could form one political group and work together they clearly could have a big impact in european politics in the future let s talk a bit about the turnout in past european elections turnout has been extremely low how big is interests in the election this time around
closely because they are quite different in nature they re also very unstable as we ve seen with the austrian example they re very volatile because of the internal dynamics in the parties and on a lot of key issues they do not agree with one another for example marine le pen and salvini are very sort of fond of russia and vladimir putin and have really tried to curry favor with him over the years whereas in a country like poland they re very anti russia pull it also has a. right government in place and poland for example is also very pro e.u. people don t want to leave the european union and i think that s also true in some of these other countries even though the parties are very euro skeptic as it were there s still large majorities in most of these countries that support european union membership so i think it s going to be an interesting debate in the coming years but i don t think that europe is going to fall apart as as a result of it but it does it does make things less stable t
