Senate leaders have been meeting today and they are voicing optimism that they can reach a deal. Even if they can, it still faces a critical test in the house of representatives. Earlier today, president obama warned of the consequences if congress does not act. Not only is it untenable for us to continue the shutdown, this week, if we dont start making some Real Progress both in the house and senate and if republicans are not willing to set aside some of their partisan concerns in order to do what is right for the country, we stand a good chance of defaulting and defaulting would have a potentially devastating effect on our economy.
