Coming To America was the
Black Panther of its time. The blockbuster starring Eddie Murphy as an African prince hiding in Queens fell just behind
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? in the competition for 1988’s box office crown. That was unheard for a movie with almost no white people. Murphy and his costar Arsenio Hall recently revealed that the only white person (Louise Anderson) in the otherwise all-Black cast was imposed upon them by Paramount Studios.

David Fincher’s chilly direction and brisk, choppy pace give a nervy edge to this story about the founding of Facebook, but the real winner is Aaron Sorkin’s script, based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires. Sorkin heavily fictionalized the facts to serve his purposes in telling a story about greed, betrayal, and the profound pettiness and neediness of Mark Zuckerberg (played with surprising fervor by Jesse Eisenberg), so the film shouldn’t be taken as anything like a historical document. But as a fictional account of a young man violating all moral boundaries, coming away at the top of a bold new social-media empire, and still not being satisfied, it’s unbeatable. Simultaneously entertaining and tragic, it’s polished on every level, from the whipcrack dialogue to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ propulsive score.

Disney’s latest feature,
Raya and the Last Dragon, marks the latest entry in the Disney princess lineup. It comes out today in select theaters and on Disney+ via Premier Access, which has an additional cost of $29.99. Subscribers who don’t want to pay the extra cost will have to wait until June 4, when the movie will become available to all subscribers of Disney+ at no charge.

Raya and the Last Dragon takes place in the Southeast Asian-inspired world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together in harmony. The dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity from sinister monsters called Druun. Those same monsters have returned 500 years later, prompting warrior Raya to track down the last dragon and stop the Druun for good.
