Manhunt Underway Along Alabama/Florida Line For Wanted Sex Offender : NorthEscambia.com

June 29, 2021 A convicted sex offender was captures early Tuesday morning near the Alabama/Florida state line after several hours on the run. Authorities from Alabama and Florida were involved in a search Monday night into Tuesday morning west of Flomaton for 36-year old Jedd Jackson Grimes who was wanted on outstanding warrants for a probation violation and a felony sex offender violation. Grimes was capture just before 1:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of Old Atmore Road, just north of the state line. He was located on the roof of an abandoned shed in a wooded area, according to Escambia County (AL) Sheriff Heath Jackson. Grimes surrendered to Jackson shortly after he arrived on scene.

April 20, 2021 A now former Escambia County (AL) correctional officer was arrested by local and federal authorities after allegedly smuggling drugs in the county jail. Bethany Whiting, 36, was arrested by Escambia County (AL) Sheriff’s Office investigators and the FBI for an ethics violation of using a position for personal gain. She is accused of smuggling both spice and methamphetamine into the Escambia County (AL) Detention Center in Brewton while she was employed as a correctional officer, according to Sheriff Heath Jackson. Investigators said Whiting collected money from an inmate in exchange for bringing the narcotics into the detention center. Whiting resigned her position during the investigation. She was released from jail on a $100,000 bond.

Woman Not Yet Charged After Shooting And Killing Boyfriend In Atmore Domestic Violence Incident : NorthEscambia.com

April 8, 2021 A woman shot and killed her boyfriend in Atmore Wednesday, but so far police say she has not been charged. The woman called 911 to report that she had shot her boyfriend during a domestic violence incident in the 3300 block of Woods Road. The Atmore Police Department, Escambia County (AL) Sheriff’s Office and ASAP Ambulance responded. Officers entered the home and found a male on the floor suffering from a single gunshot wound, according to Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks. James Dennis Stanley II of Prichard, Alabama, was pronounced deceased on the scene. “Evidence collected at the home by investigators suggest a violent confrontation occurred shortly before the shooting occurred,” Brooks said. “At this time, no arrest has been made, but the case is still under investigation by APD Investigations.”

December 22, 2020 Three people are facing charges after a high speed Alabama police chase ended with a vehicle crash across the state line in Florida last week near Bratt. The Escambia County (AL) Sheriff’s Office was pursuing the vehicle south on Florida Highway when the driver wrecked, according to Escambia County (AL) Sheriff Heath Jackson. The high speed pursuit started after an Alabama deputy attempted to stop the Hyundai Sonata on Tumbling Lane in the Canoe area. “The vehicle matched the description of a car that had been used in several burglaries,” Jackson said. “After the deputy activated his lights and sirens, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed in an attempt to escape law enforcement.”

December 17, 2020 An Alabama police chase ended with a vehicle crash across the state line in Florida Thursday afternoon near Bratt. The Escambia County (AL) Sheriff’s Office was pursuing the vehicle south on Florida Highway when the driver wrecked, according to Escambia County (AL) Sheriff Heath Jackson. Jackson said occupants in the vehicle were burglary suspects, and he confirmed that a handgun was found in the vehicle following the crash. No one was transported to the hospital, but at least one suspect was likely being transported to jail. The wreck happened when the driver attempted to turn onto Old Bratt Road while being pursued and lost control. The Hyundai Sonata crossed over the centerline into Florida and hit into a power pole before the vehicle came to rest in a field in Florida.
