Sheriff: Two People Shot By Century Correctional Officer At Birthday Party Near Flomaton : NorthEscambia.com

January 31, 2021 Two people were shot at an adult birthday party near Flomaton Saturday night, and the suspect was identified as a correctional officer. The adult males were shot outside a home on McMurphy Lane off Old Atmore Road, about four miles west of Flomaton. James Scott Lassiter, age 51 of Flomaton, was charged with two counts of attempted murder. Lassiter was identified by Escambia County (AL) Sheriff Heath Jackson as a correctional officer at the Century Correctional Institution. Jackson told NorthEscambia.com shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday that Lassiter had just been taken into custody after he was located by a K-9. The sheriff said a motive for the shooting had not yet been established.

January 19, 2021 A man wanted for the shooting death of a teen last November in Atmore has been arrested by U.S. Marshals in Austin, Texas. Rodarious Tyrig Dailey, 22, is awaiting extradition back to Alabama to face a murder charge. Just before 4:30 p.m. on November 27, 2020, , the Atmore Police Department received a 911 call reporting that one person had been shot at 163 Harris Street. Atmore officers arrived to find the 17-year old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body area, according to Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks. The teen was transported by ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital where he later died.

December 22, 2020 Three people are facing charges after a high speed Alabama police chase ended with a vehicle crash across the state line in Florida last week near Bratt. The Escambia County (AL) Sheriff’s Office was pursuing the vehicle south on Florida Highway when the driver wrecked, according to Escambia County (AL) Sheriff Heath Jackson. The high speed pursuit started after an Alabama deputy attempted to stop the Hyundai Sonata on Tumbling Lane in the Canoe area. “The vehicle matched the description of a car that had been used in several burglaries,” Jackson said. “After the deputy activated his lights and sirens, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed in an attempt to escape law enforcement.”
