The Moore County Board of Commissioners reviewed a proposed new framework for school funding on Tuesday that would allocate a per-pupil calculation for the upcoming fiscal year.
The $32.5 million local budget request covers the associated costs with projected enrollment growth in the district and in charter schools, plus $1.1 million to fund a new salary scale for supporting staff.
âIt is time to provide full and certain funding for every child whether they sit in our classrooms or log in from home,â said Board of Education Chair Libby Carter. âIt seeks to maintain our programs and staff that make our school system one of the finest in the state. It seeks to maintain (current funding levels), it does not seek to add.â

Big Bear tournament supports former councilman after fire
GLOCESTER – Glocester proved once again over the weekend it’s a community that sticks together after an ice fishing tournament raised $500 for a former councilman whose house burned down earlier this month.
Bill Flynn, a former councilman who also served as a former director of the West Glocester Fire Department, lost his home to a fire on Feb. 6. According to his daughter, Sherry Anderson, he lost everything, salvaging only a couple of photos.
