INDIANAPOLIS — DeKalb Central school board member Heather Krebs attended the Indiana School Boards Association’s sixth annual State House Day at the Indianapolis Hyatt Regency on Feb. 6.
The bill would require schools to administer the statewide literacy test IREAD in second grade, a year earlier than current requirements. It also would give students three chances to pass the exam during third grade before being denied promotion to fourth grade, with some exceptions.
Legislation aimed at improving student literacy moved out of the Senate on Thursday after an hour of debate on provisions strengthening the state’s approach to retention.
