Taipei, Jan. 21 (CNA) Taiwan's manufacturing giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., which has been keen to diversify its product portfolio, has invested more in electric vehicles (EVs), quantum computing, and "metaverse" opportunities.
MediaTek Inc (聯發科), the world’s biggest supplier of chips used in 5G smartphones, yesterday said it is to increase its research and development (R&D) budget by 10 to 20 percent this year as it continues to broaden its product portfolio beyond mobile phone chips.
The Hsinchu-based fabless company is seeking to grow by investing heavily in R&D in new fields, including chips for ARM-based Chromebooks, vehicles and industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices.

Ennoconn Corp (樺漢科技) is confident about its business operations this year, as it expects to continue to benefit from booming artificial intelligence of things (AIoT), 5G, cloud and semiconductor markets, the industrial computer maker said on Friday.
The company expects its design and manufacturing branch to post higher growth this year, while its systems integration segment and brand business should also show stable expansion from last year, it said.
“Judging from orders in hand, the order visibility has extended into next year, which helps the company maintain a double-digit percentage growth rate,” Ennoconn said in a statement.
