The Watt Avenue property sits on a total of more than 13 acres, complete with a 130,000-square-foot warehouse and approximately 9 acres of enclosed parking. One day, it could house several hundred homeless community members as they seek more permanent housing.
The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors gave its Office of Homeless Initiatives until July to work on a proposal banning encampments near some areas.
The 44-unit community, near Florin Road just west of Highway 99, would be the county’s second so-called Safe Stay Community, a model that aims to transition people from nearby encampments to more permanent housing.
