The bridge will open on labor day. It has yet to be officially approved by that threeperson panel but thats expected to happen tomorrow at 10 a. M. Allen . It seems like the scale really tipped when the federal government signed off on this temporary fix to the permanent bolt fix. Reporter thats right. It has been a whirlwind 48 hours. We have seen a federal report come out approving that temporary fix for the bridge and not only approving it, but also urging caltrans to open this as soon as possible. This is a safety issue and we have heard officials over and over stress that the new bridge will be by far safer than the old bridge. We got a number of independent reports confirming that the earlier we can get people on the new bridge the better. A toneddown Opening Celebration but an owing there will be.
