Bayelsa to prioritise health sector investment On By Samuel Oyadongha, Bayelsa Bayelsa State government has said it would give priority to the health sector as part of the initiative to improve the overall well-being of citizens of the state. Governor Douye Diri stated this on Monday in Yenagoa at the opening of a three-day maiden Bayelsa Health Summit with the theme: “Achieving Improved Health System Performance Through Strategic Planning and Stakeholder Engagement.” The well-attended event had in attendance former President Goodluck Jonathan, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, President, Commonwealth Medical Association, Dr Osahon Enabulele among other stakeholders. Diri in a statement said his administration was embarking on critical and sustainable measures toward addressing the challenges of the primary to tertiary health institutions in the state.

126 prepare for future jungle rescue operations » Borneo Bulletin Online

March 16, 2021 James Kon A total of 126 participants, comprising personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and Emergency Medical Ambulance Services (EMAS) as well as members of Kaampong Serasa Village Consultative Council participated in a search-and-rescue exercise, organised by the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) at Tempayan Pisang hill recently. The exercise involved five individuals in a group who went hiking, fell into a steep gorge about 15 – 25 metres deep. All victims were injuried with one sustaining a head injury. Commanding Officer of Operation ‘A’ Branch Acting SSFR Pengiran Haji Asmali bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad observed the activity, along with other officers.

39 on better footing in disaster management » Borneo Bulletin Online

February 6, 2021 Hakim Hayat Some 39 individuals, among them youth leaders, concluded the second series of the Disaster Preparedness Coordination (DPC) training programme at the Youth Development Centre and the Berakas Forest Reserve. Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong presented certificates of recognition and DPC jackets to mark the end of the four-day programme. The programme aimed at enhancing knowledge on climate change adaptation and minimising disaster risks, including preparedness and response through joint coordination. It was organised by the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) with cooperation from departments and organisations, as a manifestation of the Youth’s Role in the Adaptation of Climate Change and Minimising Disaster Risks (CCA and DRR) held on November 18-19 last year.

Emergency services hold Brunei River exercise » Borneo Bulletin Online

January 30, 2021 Two boats collided in the waters just below the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha (RIPAHS) Bridge, sending several passengers into the Brunei River. Personnel from Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), Emergency Medical Ambulance Services (EMAS) and the Marine Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) were immediately deployed to the site, for a search-and-rescue operation. This was the scenario of a recent exercise codenamed ‘EXSESAIS SEKOCI 2021’, led by Exercise Director and Commanding officer of the ‘D’ Operation Branch SSFR Muhd Shahreeni bin Haji Mohd Yussof.
