Authorities have two months to respond to calls for stricter legal targets on airborne contaminants after inquest concluded that they contributed to the death of Ella Roberta Kissi-Debrah
A coroner who oversaw a major inquest into the role air pollution played in the death of a London schoolgirl in 2013 has called on UK authorities to introduce stricter legally binding safety targets.
Philip Barlow, assistant coroner for the inner South London area, has urged the government to revise the acceptable legal level of particulates allowable in external air. He said that the current levels were presently far higher than those allowed under WHO guidelines.
