Saturday, April 24, 2021 The City of Monett is starting a flushing program for the water system. The water department is using a process called Unidirectional Flushing, which is designed to bring the water through the system in a controlled fashion at velocities sufficient to provide a scouring action within the distribution piping. The process will help remove scale and debris from pipes and valves to improve the quality of drinking water by providing better chlorine treatment. When our crews are working in the area, residents may experience water that is murky due to the process. When crews finish work in an area, the city recommends residents run their water for a few minutes from a hydrant or tub. Residents should be sure to run cold water until it is clear so they don’t pull the water with some color to it into hot water heaters. The city does not recommend washing clothes, especially whites, when crews are in the area doing this work.
