Pastor Elie Henry, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Inter-American Division, shares a statement with church leaders and members across the world, following his recent release from captivity, along with his daughter, on Dec. 28:
On behalf of my wife and daughters, I would like to express our deepest appreciation to our brothers and sisters around the world who fervently prayed for us during the difficult experience these past few days.
Your prayers gave us strength and assured us once again that God hears His children and leads us to experience things in life with a purpose. I was reminded of so many promises in the Bible of God’s faithfulness, His power to move, soothe, guide and strengthen our minds in times of distress and uncertainty.

It is with grateful hearts to God that we rejoice with the Henry family upon hearing the marvelous news shared by the Inter-American Division that Elie Henry, president of that division, and his adult daughter, Irma, were released on Monday from a kidnapping in Haiti. This is a tribute to all who were praying and working for this very positive outcome. Praise be to God who has heard our prayers. Seventh-Day Adventist leaders say the Haitian-American director of their church s Inter-American division, and his daughter, were released Monday after being kidnapped in Haiti on Christmas Eve.
In a statement posted Monday night on its Inter-America website, Adventist Pastor Leonard Johnson said Pastor Elie Henry and his daughter Irma were free in Port-au-Prince and are doing well.

Pastor Elie Henry, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America, along with his adult daughter Irma, were released and unharmed on Dec. 28, 2020, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Pastor Henry and Irma went missing on the evening of Dec. 24, 2020.
“I have spoken with Pastor Henry and he has informed me that he and Irma were reunited with his wife, Ketlie, in Port-au-Prince, and all are doing well,” said Pastor Leonard Johnson, executive secretary of the church in Inter-America.
“We praise God for his protection over them,” continued Pastor Johnson. “Our church leaders and members across Inter-America and the world prayed for their release, and we are relieved and thankful to God.”
