In the post-cabinet press briefing, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz said that the prime minister has given clear instructions to activate a bill reportedly pending before the parliament for a couple of years, and devise a mechanism for resolving the issue.

The cabinet was informed that the number and spread of coronavirus cases in the country are declining. Corona vaccine is being administered to frontline workers. So far, about 50,000 frontline workers have been vaccinated and the process is being accelerated.

Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo Professor Ransford Gyampo, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana has accused the Electoral Commission of abandoning a core duty of regulating the activities of political parties. Professor Gyampo said on Net2 TV that political parties have a field day breaching the rules that govern their operations because the Electoral Commission has over the years shown little or no interest in regulating their activities. He decried that successive Electoral Commission administrations have limited their duties to organizing elections and completely neglected their power to control the actions of political parties.

Professor Gyampo believes the recently held election was devoid of opaqueness and that the Electoral Commission was open and honest with all parties involved in the electoral process. Gyampo admitted on Net2 TV that as a matter of principle he was against the compilation of a new voters’ register but he was impressed with how the Electoral Commission went about the exercise amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
