Showdown at Sunset, a long-running historical re-enactment of a gunfight that took place on the Union County Courthouse square in 1902, returned to cap off Main Street El Dorado s Back to School Bash with a Splash on Saturday. The scheduled July 8 performance of the re-enactment, which depicts the fatal historical feud between Marshal Guy Tucker and the Parnell brothers, was rained out, but a crowd gathered despite the heat Saturday to catch this summer s last installment. The performance was preceded by musical previews of two upcoming SAAC productions, "Once Upon a Mattress" and "Mary Poppins."
Main Street El Dorado s Back to School Bash with a Splash brought wet and wild activities to downtown yesterday, ranging from water slides to live music to food and a dunking booth (staffed by SouthArk Stars) along with a number of student vendors with homemade food and crafts.
Union County s students will return to school next week and several events across the county are set to take place to make sure students are fully prepared.
