N.J. man accused of killing mother, setting fire to home, police say Updated May 18, 2021; A Denville man was accused Tuesday of setting fire to his home after he murdered his mother and left her body inside, authorities said. Anthony Citro, 41, of Denville was charged with murder, arson and weapons-related offenses, according to a joint statement from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and the Denville Police Department. Police and firefighters were called to Citro’s home at 37 Chestnut Hill Drive East at 7:24 a.m. on Monday after they received a 911 call reporting a fire there, the office said. When police arrived, they found Citro outside the home with blood on his clothes as smoke was seen coming from inside, they said.

Prosecutor: Denville man killed mother, set their home on fire

A Denville man killed his mother and set their Indian Lakes section home on fire, authorities said. Anthony Citro, 41, was charged with first-degree murder and arson after police and firefighters who responded to a fire on Monday found the remains of his mother inside the home they shared, authorities said. Arriving at the scene on narrow, hilly Chestnut Hill Drive East, police found Citro outside the residence, with apparent blood on his clothing, said Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll. The cause of death has been ruled homicide by the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office. Carroll identified the victim as Eileen Citro, 68. He charged her son on Tuesday after the Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the manner of death was sharp force injuries and ruled it a homicide.

Anthony Citro faces several charges, including murder and arson, for the incident that authorities say killed Eileen Citro. Law enforcement received a 911 call at about 7:30 a.m. Monday for a fire at 37 Chestnut Hill Drive East. Police found Anthony Citro outside the home with blood on his clothing, according to the prosecutor s office.
