The ANC-aligned South African Students Congress (Sasco) came out kicking and screaming after losing the student representative council (SRC) elections to EFF Student Command (EFFSC) at the University of Fort Hare last week. The EFFSC emerged victorious at both the university’s East London and Alice campuses after a hard-fought campaign, which ended with the winners carrying a coffin and conducting a mock funeral service to commemorate the “death” of Sasco.
AfriForum Youth took responsibility for pasting the “blacks only” and “no whites allowed” stickers outside the UP Hatfield campus, saying this was “to place the spotlight on racial exclusion and the university’s double standards”.
An examination hall at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg campus was gutted by a fire allegedly set alight by protesting students on Monday night.
