Education Minister Rosy Akbar says Heads of Schools are the principal signatories when it comes to the managing of the Free Education Grant, and that has been done to ensure they have a civil servant in charge of managing the grant as they can be held more accountable.

Education Minister Rosy Akbar says we will only resume face-to-face classes and classroom teaching when Fiji is once again COVID contained.
While speaking about the extended closure of schools, Akbar says after close consultation with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the Ministry of Health they found this to be the best course of action if they are to ensure the safety of students and teachers given the severity of the current pandemic situation not only in Fiji but across the world.

Children should have all the mental health support they need during this COVID-19 pandemic because they are likely to suffer from high levels of depression and anxiety.
This, according to Education Minister Rosy Akbar, who also said studies showed children in this situation have faced a lot of stress as a result.
“Take note of changes in the behaviour of your children, and address it in a supportive manner,” she said.
