TWO high-performing Blackburn secondary schools will provide professional training and development to teachers and school leaders in Lancashire as part of a new national scheme. Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and Sixth Form College (TIGHS) and Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School (TIBHS) have been designated Teaching School Hubs by the Department for Education (DfE). The new hubs will help teachers at all stages of their careers with best practice in a bid to improve the retention and recruitment of teachers and to boost pupils’ achievement. TIGHS will offer development and training to schools in Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Ribble Valley and Rossendale.
Ibnull and Sharull TWO talented brothers from Bolton s Eden Boys’ School are among just a handful of pupils in the UK to complete an online maths learning programme. Deputy head boy Sharull Hossain, a Year 11 pupil, and his younger brother Ibnul, in Year 10, answered more than 20,000 questions correctly as part of the Hegarty Maths learning programme. Sharull completed 168 hours of work, the equivalent of a full 24 hour a day week, and scored 100 per cent across 925 skills. His brother, Ibnul, completed the programme in 124 hours matching his brother’s success rate across all 925 skills. The mathematical whizzes were delighted to receive a letter from the founder of the programme, Colin Hegarty, congratulating them on their remarkable achievement.
