EC man convicted of knifepoint armed robbery

EAU CLAIRE — An Eau Claire man will be sentenced March 19 for his role in pulling a knife on three people in Eau Claire. William W. Null, 39, 817 Broadview Blvd., pleaded no contest recently in Eau Claire County Court to a felony count of armed robbery as a party to a crime. Judge John Manydeeds ordered a pre-sentence investigation by the state Department of Corrections. Manydeeds could sentence Null to up to 25 years in prison. Manydeeds also converted Null’s $10,000 cash bail to a $10,000 signature bond. Null’s co-defendant, Keri L. Rowan, 33, of Chippewa Falls, was previously sentenced to three years of probation and 60 days in jail in connection with the incident.

Woman pleads guilty to embezzling from EC employer

EAU CLAIRE — A Menomonie woman has admitted to embezzling several thousands of dollars from her town of Union employer. Lisa J. Sainburg, 53, 1622 N. Broadway St., pleaded guilty recently in Eau Claire County Court to a felony count of theft in a business setting. As part of a three-year deferred agreement with prosecutors, the charge will be dismissed if Sainburg pays a $250 fine and $19,464 in restitution, commits no new crimes, performs 120 hours of community service and not be employed in a job where her duties include handling finances. According to the criminal complaint: An Eau Claire County sheriff’s deputy was sent to Bobcat Plus, 8500 Chayne Drive, in the town of Union on Jan. 21 to investigate a possible embezzlement case.

Police: Baby s skull broken while man strangled wife

EAU CLAIRE — A baby’s skull was broken while a man strangled his wife after he became angry with her, police said. The woman was holding the baby, who fell out of her arms while her husband strangled her, police said. Matthew T. Roge, 38, 608 Plum St., was charged Thursday in Eau Claire County Court with felony counts of physical abuse of a child causing great bodily harm, second-degree recklessly endangering safety and strangulation and suffocation, and misdemeanor counts of battery and disorderly conduct. A $25,000 cash bail was set for Roge, who is prohibited from having contact with his wife and children.
