they ve been using a bull horn to make sure everybody is out of that area as the firefighting effort continues here on the easy street fire, the easy fire, as it s being called. just closest to us is the ronald ray greenspan library. it s a good stance away. so the fire has a good amount of land to travel before it actually gets to that area. but there have been structure protection crews at the ronald reagan library for the better part of the morning to make sure that building is completely safe in case the fire moved in that direction. and it appears to be at least put out by fire crews at this point. so it doesn t look like it will get there at that point. but let me show you some live pictures back here. you can see, some of the fire crews that are coming down the area here, the roadway here, the hall, the hill, as they continue to make sure some of the hot spots in this area are being put out as this easy fire continues to burn right now. and also one of their big
conversation whether or not to turn off power. you can only imagine what the situation might have been like if these power lines had not been deenergized. how are the firefighters doing? reporter: it s been tough for them. you know, i talked to a bunch of folks yesterday who were out there, task forces that were going to clear up containment lines and they told me that they re working 24-hour shifts on and then 24 hours off. a lot of them are local, craig, so this means a lot of them have a ton of pride to be able to come out here and make sure this community is protected, but they re not going to lie to you, it s really hard what they re doing. there are actually firefighters from ten different states in the country right now all banding together. california has a mutual aid system, so one out of every five states, there s somewhere from there here right now in california throughout the state helping with these fires. sam brock on duty for us. sam, thank you. we ll be checking i
congressman neguse, congressman, thank you. thank you, craig. we continue to follow this breaking news. more fuel to the fire here. live pictures. this is simi valley, california. this is just west of the ronald reagan presidential library, roughly a mile or so, we re told. that library reportedly has been evacuated, you can see, for folk who familiar with the area. you can see that the names of these streets that have just popped up, thanks to some new technology. you re looking at presidential drive. again, roughly a mile away from the ronald reagan presidential library. in fact, you can see it on the right-side of your screen. it s now out of here we obviously don t control this helicopter. this is the helicopter being used by our affiliate there, but you can see some of the multi-million dollar homes that are somewhat commonplace in this particular part of ventura county, california, as those flames, the walls of fire that
fires. in simi valley, in southern california, new fires and concerns that they could become quite severe, as strong winds are expected over the next day and a half there. sam brock is in healdsburg, california, for us right now. and sam, as i understand it, you are in front of what used to be a winery. reporter: it did. it was a winery, craig, for about 150 years, until sunday struck. it was standing then and this is the result afterwards, which is just total devastation. the amazing part about this is that it was, obviously, this is a wind-driven event. the fire, when this happened, was all the way on the ridge line up here, okay? so probably a good mile if not more away from where we are right now. the flames came all the way down here on sunday morning and tore this to pieces. this was here for 150 years. the wine tasting room right here. but it s not just that. there are all of these people who are living here as well. if you keep walking down here, there s a house on the other
as high winds and brush fuel those flames. mekahlo medina is in that area to show us what it looks like on the ground. we re here on easy street in simi valley, the orange of the fire. it s called the easy fire, but it s certainly been a heck of a job with all of these high winds that are blowing here. take a look behind me. you can see firefighters have done a pretty good job at putting out much of these flames over the course of the last couple of hours. they ve not used only helicopters to drop water on the flames and also a large aircraft to drop phos-chek, to create a line to make sure these flames do not approach this area, where we currently are right now. the fire burning roughly 100 acres or so. one of the big concerns is on this area of the fire. that s because there appear to be transients that are staying in the brush area of this fire. it s unclear exactly how many people might be there. but police have been down in that area.
