A Cambridge state representative says the migrant crisis has reached a “real boiling point," blaming the secretary of state for refusing to consider shifting an overflow shelter into a 24/7 operation.
The shelter, funded through a grant from the state’s Safety Net Shelter program with the United Way, will open Feb. 20 at La Colaborativa’s new headquarters in Chelsea.
MassDOT officials unveiled a new plan this week for the so-called “grounding” of McGrath Highway. The reconstruction includes tearing down the crumbling Somerville overpass, reducing the number of car lanes and adding lots of new bike amenities.
The organization partnered with the Cambridge Public Library, the city and school system to distribute bookmarks with the histories of influential Black Cantabrigians, including accomplished saxophonist Johnny Hodges and Saundra Graham, the first Cambridge woman of color to be elected to city council.
