i m alex witt along said eamon mohyeldin. this morning national security adviser michael flynn has resigned his post. his departure comes amid discussions that he discussed easing sanctions with a russian ambassador and misled the vice president and other senior administration officials about the nature of his conversations. in a resignation letter flynn wrote, in part, unfortunately, because of the fast pace of events i inadvertently briefed the vice press elect and others with incomplete information. a senior official tells nbc news the president and advisers have been, quote, agonizing over what to do about flynn for days but ultimately the situation became unsustainable, not because of a discussion of sanctions but because he had lied to the president and vice president.
