Damaged and derelict: A closer look at some of Dundee's buildings at risk

© DCT Media/Mhairi Edwards What was once a welcoming entrance to a family-run furniture emporium is now boarded up and vandalised. The story of Dundee’s rich and varied history can be told through its buildings, but sadly many of the city’s structures are at risk and crumbling. From the silent skeletons of old mills to the clean lines of Art Deco architecture, 44 of the city’s properties are considered to be in danger. Scotland’s Buildings at Risk register seeks to identify buildings across the country which have historic or architectural merit, and are damaged, derelict or facing destruction.

Lee water main project buttons up for winter

LEE — A Ludlow contractor is 1,800 linear feet from completing the new, larger state-funded $4.9 million water main that will increase water pressure and aid in the redevelopment of the Eagle Mill. Borges Construction has buttoned up the project having, since late July, laid 7,000 of the 9,000 linear feet from the town reservoir/water treatment plant to Canal Street across from the mill along the north end of Main Street. All work stopped as of [Dec.11]. It will resume in late March, depending on the weather. [Borges] has until July 1 to complete the project, said Lee Department of Public Works Superintendent Al Zerbato.

With revised plan in hand, Lee Planning Board backs Eagle Mill project

LEE — With the developer promising more parking, if needed, the Lee Planning Board unanimously has backed a revised plan for redeveloping the Eagle Mill with more housing and less commercial space than originally planned. By a 5-0 vote Monday night, the town planners, despite lingering concerns over adequate parking, felt confident that principal developer Jeffrey Cohen would increase the number of spaces if the demand warrants it. The decision did not include any conditions for the developer to meet regarding the parking. “They don’t want a parking disaster. I really feel they would do something about it,” said Planning Board member Buck Donovan.
