COVID-19: Cases spike in Steuben County, 50 spots named exposure risks

Elmira Star-Gazette Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Steuben County spiked by 123 since Saturday, and contact tracing investigations led by health officials point to 50 locations where spread may have been possible.  Those who tested positive are under isolation and all known exposure risks have been notified.  “As predicted, we have had multiple positive cases and a number of contacts traced back to Thanksgiving gatherings,” said Public Health Director Darlene Smith. Of the new cases, 26 people had contact with previously reported positive cases and 13 people had contact on Thanksgiving with people who tested positive, some from out of the county or state.

Active cases are up 93 compared to the end of the previous week. The county now has 2,383 confirmed cases.  Locally, new cases to end the week included residents of the City of Hornell (15), Town of Addison, Town of Avoca, Town of Bath (4), Town of Cameron, Town of Canisteo (3), Town of Dansville, Town of Greenwood (2), Town of Hornellsville (5), Town of Howard, Town of Troupsburg (3), Village of Addison (5), Village of North Hornell (4), Village of Arkport, Village of Avoca, Village of Bath, Village of Canisteo and Village of Wayland.
