To call her homely would be kind. But there was something in the visage of Margaret Maultasch, the last countess of Tyrol and princess of Carinthia, that touched the heart (and creative mind) of Victoria playwright Janet Munsil.
Munsil was strolling through London’s National Portrait Gallery when she saw Maultasch’s portrait, painted sometime after her death in 1639.
