After the discussion, so please join down there. And so excited to talk about this book, and thank you for being with us. Mr. Huebner thank you. What was your impetus behind writing this book . Mr. Huebner it took me a long time to write. It is a book that i hope tells a big story. Im interested in what changed from the antebellum period to reconstruction. The only way to evaluate that is trying to cover it all. The book really explores american constitutionalism from the antebellum era through reconstruction. Guest i have never kept count of the number of times i was arrested. I write in the book about two of them. The first one and the last one. I remember very well the first one. I met my wife. We met in jail and that became a real blessing for me. The last time was in Columbia South carolina in 1961. I remember that one so well because that arrests led to a landmark reach of peace case against South Carolina. It began the law school, a Law School Case that most universities that use the casebook method used that case. I happen to have been one of those arrested that day and so i remember those. In between a lot of times we got arrested and were never really charged. We were just taken to the police station, taken off the streets of lawrenceburg and then put back on once the crowd dispersed so i never really kept count on all of that. Host why were you and Emily Clyburn arrested in what year was back back . Guest it was march 15, 1960. It was six weeks after those students were arrested i

Was interested in so many things. It it was not clear why she had empathy andrest for advocacy for native americans island i wonder if your guests could explain about that. I think there were some indian chieftans who came to the white house to visit, and i think they made a great impression on her, and she became interested in indian welfare. And she was interested in their education. She was interested in their medical well being and health. Which was a very it was a proper thing for her to be interested in. Nobody is going to be objecting to educating children or taking care of people who were sick. So it was certainly a good thing for her to do. The indians thought of her as their great white mother. You talked about the first lady and the white house. She had connections to the Johns Hopkins hospital and the pediatric unit she set up. Well talk about that in a minute. A question from jenny webber. Harriet lane had a cutter named after her. Also, i heard she got into trouble for th
