FREDERICKSBURG, Va. The pandemic has brought a lot of hardships for people, especially for some small businesses. But even during a difficult time, a quaint coffee shop in Downtown Fredericksburg is spreading joy. Anita Crossfield opened Italian Station four years ago. The community of Fredericksburg is a small community with such a huge heart, said Crossfield.
The Fredericksburg City Council deferred a vote on a plan to crack down on its downtown noise.
A new amendment to the city’s noise ordinance would set a maximum noise limit for the city’s Downtown Business District. Under the new rules, any noise heard 200 feet from the property would be considered a public nuisance during the daytime.
At night, there would be a 100 foot limit between 11 p.m., midnight during the week, or between 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. on holidays.
The council decided to defer based on what they characterized as “misunderstandings from the public” of the purpose of the new noise restrictions.

Amtrak and Virginia Railway Express trains serve the Fredericksburg train station.
Fredericksburg’s transportation officials will work in conjunction with the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority to improve passenger train experience in Fredericksburg City and Stafford and Spotsylvania counties.
The Passenger Rail Authority was established earlier this year has been tasked with promoting, sustaining, and expanding passenger and commuter rail service availability in Virginia. It will also own all the new tracks meant for passenger rail in Virginia, including the third rail that will run from Union Station in Washington D.C. to Spotsylvania County.
One year ago, Gov. Ralph Northam announced a $3.7 million deal that would double the number of Amtrak trains that would run between Washington and Richmond and increase Virginia Railway Express commuter rail service by 75 percent.
