Wisconsin Supreme Court takes on Marathon County case delayed for lack of attorney

MADISON – A 45-year-old Green Bay man whose court case stalled in Marathon County more than 100 days while officials tried to get him an attorney is waiting for a decision from the Wisconsin Supreme Court on whether things were done according to the law.
Nhia Lee is charged with amphetamine possession with intent to deliver, identity theft and drug paraphernalia possession. On Sept. 11, 2018, Marathon County Circuit Judge Lamont Jacobson set a $25,000 cash bond for Lee. The Wisconsin Public Defender s Office determined Lee qualified for a public defender.
WAUSAU – A 45-year-old man hospitalized after a shooting May 15 died Wednesday, according to the Wausau Police Department.
Police are asking the Marathon County District Attorney s Office to amend charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide previously filed against Michael L. Turner, 45, of Wausau, to first-degree intentional homicide, according to a police department news release.
Marathon County Court Commissioner Douglas Bauman found Tuesday that there was enough evidence to continue the case against Turner, who is being held on a $1 million cash bond. Turner s next court appearance is scheduled for June 16.
Officers responded at 8:45 a.m. May 15 to South Fifth Avenue and West Thomas Street to a report of a shooting in the road. The victim was parked on the road in the 1000 block of Fifth Avenue when a man drove up, got out of his vehicle and shot the victim as he sat in his car, according to police.
