The gun-control group named in honor of wounded former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is installing a “Gun Violence Memorial” on the National Mall next week featuring 40,000 flowers to represent the number of Americans the group said dies from gun violence each year.
The visual reminder is designed to coincide with new federal action on gun control from President Biden and his administration. Ms. Giffords, the Arizona Democrat wounded in an assassination attempt in 2011 for whom Giffords is named, plans to hold a press conference from the memorial next week supporting new gun control actions.

Sen. Ted Cruz said he did not flee storm-struck Houston for sun and sand in Mexico he just took a plane to Cancun and back to be a good dad and accompany his daughters as they escaped a once-in-a-generation storm.
Photos posted on social media late Wednesday night show a man who looks like the Texas Republican and his family in the airport and on an airplane, alleging that he was on the way to a vacation in Cancun while Texas battled blackouts and extreme winter weather.
After more than 12 hours of not addressing the photos, Cruz released a statement: This has been an infuriating week for Texans. The greatest state in the greatest country in the world has been without power. We have food lines, gas lines, and people sleeping at the neighbors’ houses. Our homes are freezing and our lights are out. Like millions of Texans, our family lost heat and power too.
