RACINE, Wis. - The City of Racine announced on Friday, May 28 that city buildings will reopen to the public starting Wednesday, June 2.
A news release says city departments have implemented safety measures that will help minimize the risk of COVID-19 infections in order to protect both the public and employees.
Dottie-Kay Bowersox, Public Health Administrator for the City of Racine, issued the following statement in a news release: With a majority of City employees vaccinated and an increasing number of City residents getting vaccinated, we are confident we can re-open City buildings. Safety measures have been implemented to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in each department.

The departments with the highest rate of vaccination include: the human resource department, the mayorâs office, the municipal court, city attorneyâs office, the health department and the waste water utility.
As of last week, Public Works had a vaccination rate near 60%, the Fire Department was at 63% and the Police Department was at 51%.

âI do not know of a widespread consensus reason of why people choose not to receive the vaccination. It seems up to the individual and reasons tend to vary,â Sgt. Chad Melby, the RPDâs public information officer, said in an email.

Another of the cityâs community centers, the Tyler-Domer Community Center, will be a COVID-19 community vaccination location for Racine residents on Friday and Saturday, May 21 and 22.
Additionally, all Wisconsin Pick ân Save pharmacies are now accepting walk-ins to get vaccinated, no appointment necessary.
The Tyler-Domer Community Center is in the heart of Common Council President John Tate IIâs district, and he is encouraging all his eligible constituents to get vaccinated.
