May 13, 2021 The new Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory facility on the WSU Pullman campus. (WSU Photo Services) PULLMAN, Wash. Washington State University will celebrate the opening of the new Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL), marking the next era in diagnostic testing and disease surveillance. The new facility will be virtually dedicated via the College of Veterinary Medicine YouTube channel at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 13, and will feature WSU president Kirk Schulz, College of Veterinary Medicine Dean Dori Borjesson, WADDL Executive Director Tim Baszler, Rep. JT Wilcox, and Washington State Department of Agriculture Director Derek Sandison. A virtual tour of the facility will also be available.

April 5, 2021 By Marcia Gossard, College of Veterinary Medicine The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine ranked No. 6 among veterinary colleges nationally for National Institutes of Health research funding last year. “The college has consistently ranked in the top 10 of veterinary colleges for over a decade,” said Jon Oatley, associate dean of research for the college. “Our success in garnering extramural research support is a reflection of the quality of basic and applied science conducted across all units that makeup our college.” In the last three years, the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine twice ranked in the top 5 among 30 veterinary colleges for NIH funding in the United States. NIH is the largest public funder of biomedical research in the world.

Cougar Health Services to open Respiratory Care Center in Bustad Hall | WSU Insider

February 1, 2021 By Steve Nakata, Division of Student Affairs Washington State University students experiencing respiratory symptoms are being examined and treated in a new Respiratory Care Center operated by Cougar Health Services in Bustad Hall. The center stems from the University’s need for specially designed spaces to examine people with potential COVID-19 symptoms. Because of the risk of airborne transmission of COVID, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that providers see people with respiratory symptoms in rooms with enhanced ventilatory capabilities. CHS Executive Director Joel Schwartzkopf said the Washington Building, where CHS is located, was not designed for something as complex as COVID-19.
