Candidates are getting ready to run for municipal and school district elected offices.
Wednesday was the first day candidates could file for the May 1 municipal elections. Residents have until Feb. 12 to get their name on the ballot, according to the Texas Secretary of State.
Temple: Only the mayorâs seat is slated for the upcoming ballot in the city of Temple. Mayor Tim Davis, who is nearing the end of his first three-year term, currently holds the seat. It is an at-large position.
Belton: The May 1 election will be the city of Beltonâs first under the voter-approved charter changes from November. Council members now have specific places and are starting to transition to three-year terms.
With winter approaching, more people are adopting pets during the pandemic.
COLUMBIA - Some mid-Missourians are looking for a bright spot in their winter and have found that through adopting pets.
According to a Washington Post article, the second surge of adoption rates is happening. The first was when COVID-19 first struck and the second is due to more people realizing that the virus might stay for a while.
Donna Hartman moved from Pennsylvania to Moberly about two years ago. When the pandemic hit, she said it was hard for her to explore the town.
âIâve just been hunkered down since then, and I really wanted to learn the town. I really want to put some roots down,â Hartman said.

amount, $35,000. because the face amount of the policies were so low, insurance companies didn t question the settlement. the insurance policy virginia purchased on donna hartman s life was also suspicious. every single piece of that policy was either forged or fake except for the name of the person who would die. donna hartman signed the policy and her signature was witnessed by alice kessain. alice kessain lived next door to the mcginnises, but she denied signing the insurance form. as proof she pointed out her name was misspelled on the document. people don t misspell their own names when they sign their names. that s a red flag to the document examiner, to the prosecutor, to anyone involved in the case. alice kessain s signature did not match her known signature samples. and it had an unusual backwards
