Local residents assisted with a brush fire on Forest Road in Wilton on Sunday, stopping to use fire extinguishers on the blaze before fire crews arrived.
On Sunday afternoon, at about 12:55 p.m., a resident of Forest Road, also known as Route 31, reported that a tree limb came down through the power lines, creating a spark and starting a brush fire on the roadside, Wilton Fire Chief Don Nourse said.
“It was going pretty good when we got there,” Nourse said.
It only took about five minutes for the first crews to arrive, Nourse said, but in that time, the fire had grown to about a 40-foot by 40-foot area.
