ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – A Tompkins County leader charged keeping the public informed explains the process during the pandemic.
Communications Director Dominick Recckio says during COVID-19 there’s been a sense of nervousness in the community because of the health risks and scattered information.
“So when people look to the county for communications, we want to make sure those things are providing reassurance to the community. We want to make sure that it’s critical public information, and we want to make sure it’s keeping people safe. Those are the guiding principles we look at if the communication falls under one of those or ideally all of those three things, we will deliver a compassionate, clear message to the community,” said Dominick Recckio, Tompkins County Communications Director.

ITHACA, NY The Tompkins County Health Department (TCHD) is sharing information with the public and altering local guidance and publications to reflect updated quarantine guidance from New York State.
The new guidance states that individuals potentially exposed to COVID-19 may end their quarantine after a 10-day period if they report no symptoms during the quarantine period. Following a 10-day quarantine, individuals must continue to monitor themselves for symptoms for an additional four days. If symptoms develop during these days, the individual must immediately isolate and contact the Health Department at 607-274-6604 or their primary care provider to determine if testing is needed.

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Tompkins County and the City of Ithaca are hosting two community forums as part of the Reimagining Public Safety Collaborative.
Thursday’s forum at 12:30 will focus on mental health emergencies and crisis response. Public Health Director Frank Kruppa will facilitate that forum.
Friday’s forum at 5:00 is a county and city official town hall Q&A. Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick, County Administrator Jason Molino, IPD Chief Dennis Nayor, and Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne will all be participating in Friday’s forum.
