the fbi. we knew about the fisa court yet pretty much all the republicans voted to give the fisa court back their authority again after they know that they lied to a federal judge, thiessen judge asked questions about that. why should republicans be trusted now to do something about it when they had control they did nothing about the fisa court. they did nothing about the fbi. they did nothing about the department of justice. yeah. well there was that two years went by very quickly in 17 and about 18 and oversight was distracted to say the least. and i m sure that those that were there would suggest that they didn t have the appropriate people that could do this type of work. although i think john ratcliffe and others were fairly effective. but, you are right. i think there are some improvements, now on the fisa court, i think that is an important tool necessary but, you know, the fbi s abuses did call into question whether, you
this morning. you know there is breaking news. we start with a fox news alert. republican lawmakers are demanding investigation into the fbi s raid on at mar-a-lago. steve: that s right. the guy who owns mar-a-lago, former president donald trump released a campaign style video on truth social calling the united states a nation in decline largely because of the raid. ainsley: jacqui heinrich joins us live from the white house with the latest. jacqui, we might learn new information. whatever they found at mar-a-lago, if they found anything at all, right? well, we don t have any indication, ainsley right now that that information is forthcoming, but there are certainly many, many questions being posed to the justice department and the fbi about this case. claims that the agency has been weaponized coming a lot of the former president s supporters are being met with the current white house saying they had no idea this probe was coming. a white house official told fox in a statement w
site. the access to the home was granted obviously before, two months ago. the national archives searched the residence and removed 15 boxes. it s not clear why this material was not removed. it s also not clear if there has been communication since then raising concern over documents that are considered still missing or possibly present at the residence. steve: sure, professor, given the facts a former president, something like this has never happened before. of course, the fbi can t just run in wily nilly, they had to go in front of a judge. and they it to present evidence to it probable cause and the judge signed off on it. and it makes you think that the fbi and the doj knew exactly what they were looking for and it makes you wonder whether or not somebody perhaps in donald trump s inner circle or somebody else close to the former president may have told them exactly what to look for and exactly where it was.
know, they could appropriately run it because there is, remember in the fisa court there is no opposing side. kind of like the january 6th committee and we see what a disaster that is right now. steve: so the republicans are going to run on this. talk about the raid. trump s political team sent out fundraising solicitations about the search late last night. meanwhile, matthew, as you know, it s not the fbi just saying hey, let s all get a bunch of squad cars and go over to mar-a-lago and see what we can find in the safe. they the doj, in concert with the fbi, had to present evidence at a probable cause hearing with a judge. and the judge had to look at the stuff. so for it to be at this historic level, i mean, there has never been a raid at the honestly of a former president ever. so the fbi and the doj must have known exactly what they were looking for and you wonder whether or not somebody from,
