Tamil Nadu CM opens a veterinary science college, rebuts Stalin’s criticism Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday rebutted DMK president M.K. Stalin’s criticism that his government had failed to keep its promises.
He was speaking after opening a veterinary science college at the Advanced Institute for Integrated Research on Livestock and Animal Sciences (AIIRLIVAS) at Thalaivasal. Minister for Animal Husbandry Udumalai Radhakrishnan and senior officials were present at the function. He said Thalaivasal had been made a taluk.
‘No harm in altering conventions’ With Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam set to present an interim budget in the Assembly on Tuesday, the question being debated in government and political circles is whether he will announce a scheme, following the example set by the Centre two years ago.
Deviating from the convention of refraining from launching schemes at the presentation of an interim Budget, the BJP-led government at the Centre, in Februrary 2019, unveiled the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), which was meant to provide farmers up to ₹6,000 a year as minimum income support.

“This is unheard of in any State or country in the world. That is why we say leadership matters. I do not understand the slogan of the government that says Tamil Nadu is on the path of progress,” he said in a pre-Budget analysis. The government is set to present its interim Budget on Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu government on Friday announced a Rs 12,110 crore farm loan waiver in the State assembly. A total of 16.43 lakh farmers who availed loans from cooperative banks to benefit.
Making the announcement in the state assembly, Chief Minister K Palaniswami said the scheme would come into immediate effect and the required financial allocation would be made by his government.
He said the AIADMK was the only party that fulfills promises and also comes up with fresh welfare measures.
Targeting the opposition DMK, he said the party had promised two acres of land, but failed to implement.Â

At 106, she is probably the oldest living person in Tamil Nadu to get the award.
The Padma awards announced every year on the eve of the Republic Day have acquired a new dimension ever since the Narendra Modi government came to power in 2014.
