Former Derry City player Shiels steps into management at Dungannon

Former Derry City player Dean Sheils has been appointed as the new manager of Irish Premiership side Dungannon Swifts.
The Magherafelt native, who played 14 times for Northern Ireland, starred for Scottish giants Rangers and Hibernian.
He began his professional career with Arsenal but joined Hibs after not breaking into the first team under Arsene Wenger.
Dean was Assistant Manager of Northern Ireland’s women’s team managed by his father Kenny. They will compete in their first ever Euro Finals play-offs which will be played in April.

The 14-times capped Northern Ireland international was appointed this evening ahead of Saturday’s clash with Coleraine.
Shiels, 36, is currently coaching the Northern Ireland ladies team which is managed by his dad Kenny Shiels.

Club chairman Keith Boyd said he was delighted to name Shiels as the new Dungannon supremo.
“He has been getting rave reviews as a coach with the Senior Women’s International team and I’m sure he will bring the experience he has gathered from that into the job. I’m really looking forward to working alongside him and I wish him every success!”

Former Hibs and Rangers player Dean Shiels has emerged as the front runner to be named as the next manager of Dungannon Swifts.
The 14-times capped Northern Ireland international heads a list of potential candidates which includes former managers Rodney McAree and Darnen Murphy being linked with the Stangmore Park vacancy.
Shiels is currently coaching the Northern Ireland ladies team which is managed by his dad Kenny Shiels.

Swifts parted company with Kris Lindsay in the middle of last month after a poor run of results left the Tyrone side bottom of the table.
