Members of the Kansas congressional delegation have said they are safe after protesters broke into the U.S. Capitol building Wednesday afternoon.
Congress was meeting to consider the results of the Electoral College vote in the Presidential race. After protesters moved past barricades and got into the building, the House and Senate hearings were recessed.
Kansas Senator Jerry Moran made the following statement on Twitter:
“I condemn the violence and destruction at the U.S. Capitol in the strongest possible terms. It is completely unacceptable and unpatriotic. This is a sad day for our nation and it is an unwelcome reminder that our democracy is fragile.
