ALGIERS, Algeria – (AA) Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune signed a decree Thursday ordering early parliamentary elections set for June 12.
Last month, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune dissolved the National People s Assembly, the lower house of the parliament, and called the early parliamentary election in an attempt to calm down protests in the country.
Article 151 of the Algerian Constitution stipulates that elections be organized within a maximum period of 3 months in the event that the People s National Assembly is dissolved. The deadline can be extended for 3 more months in case it is deemed impossible to organize elections upon approval by the Constitutional Court.

Nepal s supreme court on Tuesday overturned the prime minister s decision to dissolve parliament, terming the move unconstitutional.
In December Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli abruptly dismissed the House of Representatives and accused members of his Nepal Communist Party of being uncooperative. He called for elections in April and May.
More than a dozen writs were filed in the Supreme Court challenging his decision, while a wave of protests and clashes took place in the streets. The Supreme Court has ordered to reinstate the dissolved House of Representatives after concluding that the government s decision was unconstitutional and against parliamentary practises, Kishor Poudel, the press expert at the Supreme Court, told AFP.
