NDRRMC: Over 68K people displaced due to typhoon Bising; authorities validating 2 casualties

(MDRRMO Virac) The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said it is yet to confirm the death of 79-year-old Alberto Wales who was reportedly hit by an uprooted coconut tree in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte. The agency is also confirming reports that 40-year old fisherman Louie Din went missing after sailing into the sea before the Bising onslaught. His three companions were able to return to their homes. “We received the information regarding [the] casualties reported from Region 8 but the data are still subjected for further validation.” said Easha Mariano, of the NDRRMC media affairs unit. In a situational report, NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad said a total of 18,467 families composed of 68,490 individuals were pre-emptively evacuated in Bicol and Eastern Visayas.

Published April 18, 2021, 3:41 PM More than 1,800 passengers were stranded while nearly 500 individuals were forced to flee their homes due to the effects of typhoon “Bising” (international name: Surigae) in Eastern Visayas (Region 8) and in Bicol, officials said on Sunday, April 18. Executive Director Ricardo Jalad, executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), said a total of 865 passengers were stranded in various ports in Eastern Visayas. There were also 391 rolling cargoes and four other vessels that were prevented from sailing due to rough sea conditions. In Bicol, 995 passengers were stranded in ports while 319 rolling cargoes such as buses, trucks, and other land vehicles were restricted from traveling.

Thousands evacuated as Vicky batters Mindanao

Published December 19, 2020, 6:54 PM Tropical depression “Vicky” dumped heavy rains in parts of Mindanao, which forced thousands of residents from Northern Mindanao (Region 10), Davao Region (Region 11), and Caraga (Region 13) to flee their homes as a precautionary measure against flashfloods and landslides, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Saturday, Dec. 19. NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad said 338 families composed of 1,525 individuals were evacuated in Valencia City, Bukidnon; Pantukan and Nabunturan towns in Davao de Oro; and Surigao del Sur. As of this writing, no casualty was confirmed by the NDRRMC. A landslide, however, was reported in Barangay San Rafael in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur which buried three homes, Jalad said. Luckily, no one was unharmed.
