"Ang importante, siguro maging paalala ito sa ating mga kababayan na ang malalakas na paglindol tulad ng nangyari sa Abra ay puwedeng tumama sa anumang lugar sa Pilipinas, except doon sa mainland Palawan kasi malayo po sila sa aktibong fault o trench. Kaya kailangang paghandaan ang mga malalakas na lindol. MANILA More than 1,000 aftershocks were recorded two days after a magnitude 7 earthquake jolted Abra and other parts of Luzon, based on the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology's (Phivolcs) record on Friday. Of the total 1,071 aftershocks recorded, 263 were plotted or located, and 26 were felt. The magnitudes of these aftershocks ranged from 1.5 to 5. Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum Jr. earlier said the strong quake , which was caused by the movement along the Abra River Fault, would generate many aftershocks in the first two to three days. The number would gradually decrease. Solidum advised the public to inspect the damaged infrastructure, houses, buildings, and to refrain from staying there for the meantime. He noted that those in urban areas where there are more people, investments, and infrastructures should be more prepared. "Kailangan nating pag-igtingan ang ating kahandaan nito pero huwag nating kalimutan iyong malalakas na paglindol, in less than
MANILA - A total of 227 aftershocks have already been recorded as a result of the magnitude 7 earthquake that jolted Abra on Wednesday. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said five of these aftershocks were felt, while 12 were plotted or located. Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum Jr. said the last strong earthquake in the country that caused damage was the magnitude 6.6 quake in Masbate in August 2020. In a radio interview, Solidum said the Abra earthquake may produce aftershocks that could happen in the next three to four days, weeks, or even months. "Ito pong lindol kanina ay isang major earthquake, ang initial calculation natin ay magnitude 7.3 at may lalim 25 kiloemeters kaya mababaw at malakas itong intensity (The earthquake earlier is a major earthquake. Our initial calculation was it was a magnitude 7.3 and was 25 kilometers deep. It was shallow and had a strong intensity)," he said. "Aftershocks may last for months, but over time, th
